"WARRIORS OF LIBERTY CITY," an Official 2018 SXSW Episodic Selection, is a docuseries from Executive Producers LEBRON JAMES and MAVERICK CARTER, along with PGA® award-winning director and producer EVAN ROSENFELD, that explores Liberty City – a crime-ridden neighborhood in Miami, Fla. that is arguably the NFL’s largest, most successful football factory.

The series follows a season with the Liberty City Warriors, a youth football program founded by an unlikely mentor: hip hop pioneer LUTHER CAMPBELL, better known as "Uncle Luke." Before Liberty City native Barry Jenkins won his historic Oscar® for Moonlight, the city was best known for producing some of the biggest names in football, including Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, Devonta Freeman, Antonio Brown, Duke Johnson, and Teddy Bridgewater. It's a place synonymous with poverty and gun violence, but in the face of incredible challenges and personal tragedy, the Liberty City Warriors learn to triumph both on and off the football field. Beyond football, Liberty City Warriors Optimist Club is a youth organization that sponsors sports teams, dance, cheerleading, tutoring and academic support. Life, like football, is a contact sport, and for the kids and families of Liberty City, being a Warrior holds the key to both.

PRESS

"One of the best reasons to turn on a television this new fall season. Handsomely made with vivid, unpredictable characters strung along old-fashioned thrill-of-victory, agony-of-defeat storylines. It might even make your life a little better."

LA TIMES // 'Warriors of Liberty City' offers an intimate look at an inner-city football program

"Warriors of Liberty City is harrowing, inspiring and probing of the myths and realities tied to neighborhoods in which sports are seen as one of the few ways to achieve the American Dream."

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER // TV Critics Pick 10 Great Sports-Themed Series

"Though there has been a recent proliferation of sports docuseries, few series are as gripping as Warriors of Liberty City. While most other shows of its kind deal with the drama of professional sports, this show traffics in real-life stakes for kids with uncertain futures. There are many sports series; there is only one of these."

THE RINGER // The Football Factory

"I was so moved while watching Starz's Warriors of Liberty City, mainly because this documentary series is about so much more than football. Warriors of Liberty City is such a hopeful, inspiring series because it shows people determined to win, no matter what, and that change IS happening, one pass, kick and jump at a time."

TV GUIDE // Here's What We're Watching This Week

"Starz documentary dances with the energy of boys taking off for touchdowns as fast as their little legs can carry them."
